HISTORICAL ORIGIN OF THE GHASSOUL
In Morocco there is a clay called "saponiferous" used for centuries and probably since the Middle Ages (XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries) by all the populations of North Africa and even in certain regions of the Middle East. This clay is called Ghassoul and this term finds its origin in the verb "Rassala" which means to wash in Arabic. This clay is mined in underground mine galleries.
THE GHASSOUL AND THE MOROCCAN TRADITION
Ghassoul or Moroccan clay has been part of the ancestral tradition and customs of Morocco and Tunisia for many decades. In Tunisia it is called '' Tfal '', and it is still an essential product in the ritual of the hammam (bathing) today.
The women always wear the ghassoul in the bathroom set, with the black soap and the Arab bath gloves.
We could venture and say that it is a holistic beauty ritual. The recipes and forms of preparation are passed down from generation to generation, both in Morocco and in Tunisia. The Ghassoul is mixed with orange blossom water, rose water and essential oils to enhance the fragrance and its hydrating qualities. In the offerings of Moroccan weddings, the ghassoul, with milk and henna cannot be missing. Ghassoul is also used by pregnant women for heartburn.
